Books I Finally Finished.

Hello guys.  I think I might have mention once or twice that I easily lose interest in things. I’m not proud of it. Even books. Not reading in general sense – I could never get tired of that but sometimes I start a book and then suddenly I’m not feeling it anymore and I’m stop. Other times, its because the book is just boring.

Most of my books are e-books and I just stacked my library with fresh books. I also have a 5-page worth of books I want to download. So I decided to pick up some of those books I left behind and read them.

It turns out I really enjoyed the books and I started asking myself, why on earth did I stop reading this book.
Answer: I have no idea.

So here are the books I finally finished in the order on which they were read:

1. Julie Gagnon’s #Famous:

In this modern day love story. Girl likes boys. Girl snaps photo and posts it onlline. Boy become insta-famous and what starts as an innocent photo turns into a whirlwind of adventure that forces them to both question whether fame- and love – are worth the price…and changes both of their lives forever. Told from alternating points of view, #famous captures the sometimes-crazy  thrill ride of social media and the equally messy but wonderful moments of liking someone in real life.

2. Alyson Noel’s Everlasting (the final book of the immortal series):

Their epic love story has captured the hearts of millions and enchanted readers around the world. In this beautiful finale, their journey draws to a spectacular conclusion – where all will be revealed. Damen and Ever are free to embark on their final quest – to free Damen from the poison lingering in his body. If they can find the antidote, they will finally be able to free to feel each other touch and experience the passionate night they’ve been longing for. But their fight to be together will lead them into the formidable terrain yet…into the dark heart of Summerland. Here in a land of endless rain and scorched earth, Ever and Damen will discovered their relationship hidden origins, expose a secret history they never imagined… and come to face to face with the reason fate keeps tearing them apart.

After finishing this book, I signed and said to myself “what a beautiful story”. What I loved most about this series was how it ended. It totally suprised me because I did not see it coming.

3. Ali Novak’s Paper Hearts; (book two in The Heartbreakers series):

Felicity has her entire future plan. Ever since her older sister ran away, she’s had the full weight of her mother’s expectation on her shoulder. So she works hard to get straight As and save for college. Except sometimes the best things in life are unplanned – like when Felicity meets a handsome, masked stranger when volunteering for a charity ball. She never thought he would flirt her. And she certainly never thought he’d turn out to be a member of world-famous band The Heartbreakers. Then Felicity uncovers a shocking family secret. Suddenly, she, Alec and her two best friends are on a road trip to find her missing…

So this book is one of those books you probably guess the ending after the first two chapters or by just reading the synopsis, but like my younger sister says, “it’s about the ‘how’. You read it to know how exactly it happens”.

So that’s it for today. Have you read any of these books? Do you plan to? What book did you finally finished after dropping it for a while? Let me know.

Have a wonderful day,

Choose to be Informed.

We are always told that Information is vital to every great man. It’s a key to success and stuffs like that. Well I personally never really keyed into those saying. Until recently I learnt an important lesson. It’s really important for us especially as teens to make an effort to know happenings around us.
I used to be one of those persons who never really bother to watch the daily news, or listen to it on radio, or read the papers. I didn’t care much for current affairs. I had this “I don’t care” attitude going on.

So it turns out the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), a body over here in Nigeria that work on admitting students to tertiary institutions, had made an announcement that every aspiring university should reupload their O’level results on the JAMB portal.
Time frame: A maximum of two weeks.
Status: Compulsory and very important. Or kiss entering the university this year goodbye.

And there I was completely oblivious. I wasn’t connected to any news media so I had no idea.

It was precisely September 13th and I was talking to a friend of mine. We were chatting and I asked her where she was. She told me she was on her way to her way to the JAMB Office to upload her WAEC (O’level) results again. You should have seen my face when she explained, I was like ‘what???’

So I start calling a lot of friends and started collecting info and it’s a really long story. Not going to bore you with details. The exercise ended Sep. 15th. I did mine Sep. 14th. It was a narrow escape, you would say. When I ask someone why didn’t she tell me about. She told me she thought I knew because well, everyone knew.

There wasn’t really anyone to blame but myself. I chose not to care. I chose not to be informed. My mum was pretty disappointed in me when I told her. It must have seem like an act of unseriousness on my part. I was also disappointed in myself. I didn’t dwell on it though. I just got rid of the I don’t care attitude.

So this is me as I waited in the JAMB office to upload my results. I was with a friend but you can only see her hand

So since then, I make sure whenever I can to watch the daily news, the world news. It’s been an Eye-opener because stuffs happens. A lot of things are happening in the world.
The flooding in Puerto Rico, mass shooting in Las Vagas, the Syrian refuges, the tension between UN and North Korea, human rights abuse and so much more. It makes me really appreciate God for what I have. I might not have the most expensive things but I have a family. A roof over my head. I don’t go to bed on an empty stomach. It’s not because I’m better than those people, not at all, but God’s grace and mercy in my life. And it’s not something I can really explain because I would have to go deep.

I don’t know what you would choose to pick out from this my little write up, but I leave you with this;

Always care and Always be grateful.

Fences: a page from a book

“I grew up believing in rules, thanks to my parents, Jack and Rainey Lane. I didn’t always like them and I broke them when they didn’t work for me, but they were sturdy things I could rely on to shape the way I lived and keep me—if not totally on the straight and narrow, at least aware there was a straight and narrow I could return to if I got to feeling lost.

Rules serve a purpose. I once told Rowena they were fences for sheep, but fences do more than merely keep sheep in a pasture where shepherds can guide them. They provide protection in the vast and frightening unknown. The night isn’t half as scary when you’re in the center of a fluffybutted herd, bumping rumps with other fluffy butts, not able to see too much, feeling secure and mostly normal.

Without fences of any kind, the dark night beyond is clearly visible. You stand alone in it. Without rules, you have to decide what you want and what you’re willing to do to get it. You must embrace the weapons with which   you choose to arm yourself to survive.

What we achieve at our best moment doesn’t say much about who we are.
It all boils down to what we become at our worst moment.

What you find yourself capable of if…say…

You get stranded in the middle of the ocean with a lone piece of driftwood that will support one person’s weight and not a single ounce more—while floating beside a nice person that needs it as badly as you do.

That’s the moment that defines you.

Will you relinquish your only hope of survival to save the stranger? Will it matter if the stranger is old and has lived a full life or young and not yet had the chance?

Will you try to make the driftwood support both of you, ensuring both your deaths?

Or will you battle savagely for the coveted float with full cognizance the argument could be made—even if you merely take the driftwood away without hurting the stranger and swim off—that you’re committing  murder?

Is it murder in your book?

Would you coldbloodedly kill for it?
How do you feel as you swim away?

Do you look back? Do tears sting your eyes? Or do you feel like a motherfucking winner?
. Impeding death has a funny way of popping the shiny, happy bubble of who we think we are. A lot of things do.

I live in a world with few fences. Lately, even those are damned rickety.

I resented that. There was no straight and narrow anymore. ”

Heeyy guys, I hope you are really doing fine. September is coming to an end. The year is and I’m grateful to God for keeping me through.

You’ve probably guessed from the heading what’s this blog post is about. I want to say a really big thank you to Joharally

Her echoed thoughts

1) We’re all afraid of something, what’s one of your fears?

I’m afraid of being a disappointment.

2) Which celebrity do you think you look like?

I have no idea.

3) Do you prefer muffins or doughnuts?

I prefer doughnuts.

4) What’s your favourite chocolate?

Hmmm, I can’t say. I don’t eat chocolates so much and the ones I do eat, I don’t take notice of their names.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how obssessed with makeup would you say you are?

Definitely 1, I’m not even a tiny bit obsessed . I hardly ever wear makeup. I’m not against it though but I just don’t depend on it. Not being egotistical, I love how beautiful how I’m without it.

6) What’s one language you’ve always wanted to learn?

My cousins are Germans, so I would really want to learn the language for better communication and stuffs. But I would also like to learn how to speak Korean. The movies are not serving as good enough guide.

7) Who’s your favourite Disney princess and why?

Elsa from Frozen. She’s a queen though not a princess. But still my fave. She’s strong, savvy, single and independent. I like the fact that she doesn’t need a man to save and kiss her like most Disney Princess. (I’m looking at you Snow White).

My nominees are: And they definitely deserve this.

Books You’ve Read Because Of Blogging, Booktube, e.t.c

via WordPress for Windows app.

If you are a regular in my blog, you would know I love books a lot. I joined Goodreads recently and I’m in a few book clubs.

Today I’ll be sharing books I got into because I heard of them in the online community.

1. Leigh Badugo’s Grisha Trilogy:
There’s a lot of hype about Liegh Badugo books in the social media. So I decided to get some of her books and I started with the Grisha Trilogy. This is a book I would recommend to a friend but personally I didn’t really enjoyed it. In the first book of the series (shadow and Bone), I thought Alina and the … would be to together but too bad he turned out to be the bad guy. Anyways, I could finish the series. I lost interest in the final book.

2. Stephanie Garber’s Caraval:

This book was one of the monthly reads for an online book club I’m in. This book really grasp my attention. I read it in a sitting. I love the whole circus and magical setting of the book. Remember everything is a game.

3. Karen Marie Morning ‘s Fever Series:
This book was recommended on a group on Facebook. When I read the book one (Bloodfever)… In this series, it was really plain. I saw Mackayla as this girl who wouldn’t move on and start getting herself into unnecessary complicated situation. Mac always mention her sister’s death and her grief, the reason she comes to Dublin, almost everytime that it started to sound like a broken record.

However in the beginning of the third book of the series, things started kicking up and I must admit, the Fever Series is on my top ten best series ever. It has a lot of action, mystery, bad ass sexy immortals, Fae(s) and it blew my mind at every page.

4. Christina Lauren’s Dating You Hating You:
This was recommended by Anna Todd ( author of the After series) on her twitter page. I really enjoyed this book. It was fun to read I loved the relationship between Evie and Carter.  and all their work place pranks and antics.

5. Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series:

I read a review of this book right here on wordpress. It was well rated and I decided to get it. I’m currently in the last book of the series and so far, I’m enjoying it.

That’s all for today.

I don’t know if this T5W would be a regular in my blog but it was fun doing it.
