BOOK REVIEW: Anna And The French Kiss

Anna had everything figured out – she was about to start senior year with her best friend, she had a great weekend job, and her huge work crush looked as if it was finally going somewhere… Until her dad decides to send her 4383 miles away to Paris. On her own.
But despite not speaking a word of French, Anna finds herself  making new friends, including Étienne St. Clair, the smart, beautiful boy from the floor above. But he’s taken – and Anna might be too. Will a year of romantic near misses end with the French kiss she’s been waiting for

Anna: Like every main character, she had her flaws and insecurities – afraid of being alone and according to Josh “She abandons her friend” but she’s pretty much, a typical teenage. Sent to Paris by her father to finish her senior year of high school and resenting him for it.

Anna loves movies and writes reviews on them on her website. She hopes to be a popular movie critic which I found relatable because, I love books and write about them on my blog.

She’s fun, attractive but for me she’s a pretty forgettable character.

Étienne St. Clair: Étienne or should I say St. Clair, since Anna is the only one who is allowed to call him that and his mum, he’s my favourite character. Most books I read, the male main character is always about six feet tall and the girl about 5’something inches. The girl has to raise her head to look at his eyes and the boy has to look down at her. .

St. Clair is short but ‘he doesn’t carry himself like a short person’. He is really cute, attractive, charming and charismatic. He has The aura around him that you can’t help but love him.

He is afraid to take a risk though with his mother being sick and coming in terms with his true feelings for Anna.

Rashmi and Josh:

The story was told from Anna point of view so I didn’t get to know much of their relationship like I would have liked to. Like Josh, he always skipped classes and got detention but at the same time, he’s a really talented artist and I wanted to know more of what was going on with him. Though we are made to know that it’s because his friends are living school.

My first impression of Rashmi was ‘oh that bithchy girl’. Just like Anna, the first impression was cleared and I learn that’s she’s actually smart, a great and supportive friend.

Meredith: When I started this book I was scared that Meredith would turn out to be one of those girls  who are like, “you dare like a boy that I’ve been crushing on since forever and tried to move things further with him, so i hate you for all eternity.” But she turned out to be real sweet, forgiving and a good friend. I love the fact that she didn’t let the relationship between Anna and St. Clair to affect her friendship with either one of them.

“I bought you love poetry! ‘I love you as certain dark things are loved, secretly, between the shadow and the soul.’”

There were a lot of misunderstanding which Stephanie Perkins used to drive the plot forward. At the beginning of the book, St. Clair had a girlfriend – Ellie who he have been with for a while and Anna had a guy she was interested with back in America – Toph. I think its worthy to add that I didn’t space out (I.e didn’t get bored) while reading this book.

This book is the type of book I would always recommend to a friend. I love its simplicity, every page was beautiful and it was thrilling to watch as young love blossom.

With this book, I know I would definitely start reading more of Stephanie Perkins.

Book Quotes: Romance Edition #2

via WordPress for Windows app.

When I first posted the

Book Quotes: Romance Edition

I was really skeptical about how it would be received. I had half a mind not to press the publish button, thinking 😔 my readers might see it as a bunch load of craps. But I got a few positive comments on that post and that just gave me a sort of confidence, so I’m doing it again. This is also my way to share my love for books and appreciate how beautiful words can be.

“And when you’ve known that kind of love, to endure the creeping passage of time without it is to live a half life where nothing ever feels real.”

Awake at Dawn

“‘I love you as certain dark things are loved, secretly, between the shadow and the soul.’”

– St.Clair, Anna and the French kiss.

“You aren’t a flower, you’re every blossom in the wood blooming at once. You are a tidal wave. You’re a stampede. You are overwhelming.”

– Matthias, Crooked Kingdom

“Our magic understood each other, deep down – just as our souls did.”

– Rowan, Empire of Storms.

“Meeting you was a disaster…“But I am grateful every day for that disaster. I needed a cataclysm to shake me from the life I knew. You were an earthquake, a landslide.”

– Matthias, Crooked Kingdom.

His lips crushed into hers, and he said onto her mouth, dropping words more precious than rubies and emeralds and sapphires into her heart, her soul, “I love you. There is no limit to what I can give to you, no time I need. Even when this world is a forgotten whisper of dust between the stars, I will love you.”

– Rowan, Empire of Storms

“Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you’ll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. He will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart.”

Six of Crows

“Some of us love too hard. Some of us don’t seem to be able to hold that vital piece of ourselves back.”

– Burned (The Fever Series)

“The moment her lips touched his lips for the first time, he felt it. He felt a shift somewhere deep inside, somewhere hidden and covered in dust. It was completely untouched since he could remember, likely forever. She awakened him, brought him light and laughter and longing and he knew from the moment her mouth found his. He would never be the same.”

– Before

““I would come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together.”

– Kaz Bekker, Crooked Kingdom.

Wonder Woman Book Tag

via WordPress for Windows app.

Hey guys, I’ve been tagged! I’m happy I finally got around to do it.

Thanks a lot to Angelica @ for nominating me. Definitely check out her blog.

okay, here we go.

Ann Jacobus’s Romancing The Dark in the City of the light.

The book is set in Paris and that’s one place I would really like to escape to.

Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments. A friend of mine would always talk about this book, so I decided to get it. I was very disappointed in it and I don’t think I can tell why without giving spoilers. I couldn’t finish the series, I stop reading when I got to the third book.

This was a really hard pick and I got struck with

Sarah J Maas’s A Court of Wings and Ruin.
And Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You.

Of all the books in the ACOTAR series, I think the ACOWAR book has the cutest covers and even with a few bumps, it’s a great book.

The cover of Me Before You, is also really cute and if you’ve read the book, you would know it’s also a scene for the actual story.
Think back to when Louise wore that red dress and she sat on Will’s lap and they were dancing together on his chair.

Hate is a pretty strong word. I won’t say I hate this book but I didn’t like it.

Shana Vanterpool’s Under the Peaches

When I started this book, I was enjoying it because it had this theme of a teacher and student falling in love, so I was thinking Vampire Academy. As I read on, I got annoyed with almost every decisions the both main characters were making, and it just turn me off.

Anna Todd’s After.

This book made me cry and laugh, made me sad and happy. It’s one of my favourite books. Though sometimes I read hateful rant about this book, it doesn’t bother me because people relate to different things differently. Anyways, I will definitely recommend it.

The Darkling from the Grisha Trilogy

For all his crimes the Darkling had love his country (Ravka), and he’d wanted its love in return.

The Book Cover Girls…click the link to read Angelica’s Wonder woman book tag

So I nominate

Flavia the Biblophile

The cursed books

Stellar Kittens Book Reviews

And anyone who wants to do this this tag.

Have fun.

More Than Just Competing

Competition has a way of bringing out the best in us. We get to see how good we are, because we are made to face different persons with different sort of training, in an unfamiliar environment. It helps us to improve, because we really get to see our weak points and it get us challenged.

There are a lot of competitive platforms opening up here and there, but there are a still lot of us who refuses to participate and put ourselves out there. Bringing the question, why?

So in the last weeks, the teachers in my church announced that ten teenagers would be needed to participate in a Bible Quiz competition with teens from other churches and Christian denominations. At the same time representing the church over there. When this was first announced, there were no willing volunteers.

We’re afraid to try.

A lot of persons tells my elder sister to go for modelling competition and pageantry. Still, my sister is reluctant and once I asked her why and she said “What if I spend a lot of efforts and money and then I don’t win?”

A lot of persons are afraid to try for many reasons and mostly because they fear failing. They are afraid of disappointing themselves and others.

So for this quiz competition, a friend of mine told she wasn’t sure she would  participate because the last time she went on something like it, she didn’t come out successful and let her team down. That bringing another reason, ‘the fear of trying again’.

You make a lot of mistakes and all the time, the most High God forgives you and gives you another chance. So who are you not to give yourself a second chance? Why would you let that single event bring you down?

Don’t think of it as losing but as an improvement exercise, because you’ve learnt something new.

In every competition, some one has to win and others, lose. If this help; don’t think of it as losing but as an improvement exercise, because you’ve learnt something new.

The truth is, even if we don’t admit it, there are competitions every where – in our work, school, business. Some one else is aiming for that position you are working hard to get. You have a classmates who wants to best you.

 What Helps?

A lot of things; amazing self esteem, working hard, preparedness but mostly, having God in your life. When you have God in your life, letting Him be the Lord of your life, you discover things aren’t so hard with Him.

2 Timothy 1:7 says ‘For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’

God gives us the boldness to express ourselves and the strength to excel.

So next time when a competitive platform arises be it singing, writing, dancing, quizzes, scholarships, anything at all and you start getting doubts, feeling unsure and uncertain, remember to talk to God, tell Him to take control, then you’ll feel those tangles of fears and insecurities begin to disperse.

This is it for today. I do hope you liked it. Make sure to tell me what you think about anything and every thing. Also a quick apology, for taking a while to reply some of your comments. Been a bit busy but please still them coming.

Book Quotes: Romance Edition

via WordPress for Windows app.

One thing I love about writers is their ability to weave and manipulate words to create something beautiful. To create worlds that you live in your head. To tell stories, that sometimes you forget that they are not real. You laugh and cry, on paper and ink.

Sometimes when you’re reading a book and you get to one point and you are like “awww, so sweet.” You just get the feels.

So in this blog post, I will be sharing with you some of my favourite book quotes. And like you seeing on the title of this post, it’s a romance edition.

“He messed up everything, he really did. He had nothing to lose and I did, I let him take everything from me. My life before him was so simple and decided, now after him…it’s just…after.”

– Anna, After.

“You make me happy but you also make me miserable, angry and most of all, you make me insane.”

-Hardin, After.

“For a moment, a blinding, blistering wrath shot through him. It was instinct to lunge for her hands, to touch the face that remained downturned.”

– Queen of Shadows

“Next time we save the world, we do it together.”

-Rowan, Queen of Shadows

“You make me want to live, Aelin Galathynius. No exist- but live. I spent centuries wandering the world, from empires to wastelands, never settling, never stopping – not for one moment. I was always looking towards the horizon, always wondering what waited across the next ocean, over the next mountain. But I think, I think that whole time, all those centuries, I was just looking for you.”

– Rowan, Queen of shadows

“The icy finality in her tone made me craved. I could deal when discussion when sideways. I could switch and spin strategy on the fly. What i couldn’t handle was when my grip on Eva slipped.”

– Gideon, The Crossfire series

“We try to do what’s right, or rather, what others say is right. But sometimes when that goes against who we are…we have to choose. As I watched all the problems you were struggling with, I realised how much you meant to me. It changed everything and I was worried about you – so, so worried. You have no idea. And it was useless to try to act like I could ever put any Moroi life above yours. It’s not going to happen no matter how wrong others say it is. And so I decided that’s something I have to deal with. Once I made that decision…there was nothing to hold us back.”

– Dimitri Belikov, the Vampire Academy series.

“Everything I’d fought for, for every challenge, every victory…all of it was empty if anything happened to him. Without him I wouldn’t have had the courage to become the person I was. Without him, I wouldn’t have realised what it truly was to live and love. Centrum Permanebit. He was my center, and there was nothing I wouldn’t do, nothing I wouldn’t give up, to keep him safe.”

– Sydney, The Bloodline series.

“It was kind of like hearing a new song on the radio you instantly love. Completely unfamiliar, but it sets your soul on fire. Like it was written just for you, and you want to sing at the top of your lungs even if you don’t know the words. That’s how it feels with him.”

– Felicity, Paper Hearts.

“Once upon a time, an angel and a devil dared to fall in love and dared to imagine a new way of living – this was not their world.”

– Days of Blood and Starlight
