Misguided Ideas on Weight Loss

A lot of people are talking about their weight and doing anything to lose it. Recently I have discovered that they are a lot of misconceptions and ideas concerning this weight losing of a thing and dieting.

Let me tell a bit of a story

So a family friend, she’s also a neighbour…

She’s said she wanted to lose weight because she thinks she is getting too fat and she does not want her husband to come and see that she has gained weight because that wasn’t how he left her. Her husband stays abroad.

She embarks on a weight losing journey but it isn’t as effective as it should be.


Because she have some misguided ideas on weight losing;

Which are;

1. I want to lose weight, so my husband won’t look elsewhere.

2. To lose weight, I must stop eating.

3. I’m not going to eat in the morning before I go to work.

So my friend will miss breakfast and come to work. When she arrives, after sweeping and cleaning the office, and working on her computer, later in the morning lets say 11, she’s tired and her stomach is empty, so she buys one bottle of Miranda or Fanta ( a soft drink that is basically water and sugar) with a pack of biscuits. When she decides to eat at noon, she buys street food. She gets home late and when she does she probably eats a little or not at all.

What’s she doing wrong?

A lot of things.

Now lets correct those misguided ideas

Never miss breakfast:

Studies show making breakfast a daily habit can help you lose weight – and keep it off.

Some people cut breakfast thinking they are cutting calories but at lunch you are starved and you start nibbling for anything you see. Making you opt for junk food.

Your body needs metabolism to burn fat. Eating early (breakfast) helps your body to produce enzymes to create metabolism to burn fat through out the day.

Don’t starve yourself:

Starving yourself is unhealthy. The last thing you need is you fainting all in the name of weight loss, then your neighbours will start asking you, “who send you?” Besides it won’t work anyway.

Not eating will make you crave more.

I know word is out there that starving yourself isn’t the best way to lose weight but people still do it out of desperation. If you are losing weight because you are insecure about your relationship or to fit in a particular crowd, then that’s low self esteem talking. Lose weight for the right reasons.
 Instead of eating three large meal, switch to five smaller meal. An healthy breakfast, a mid morning snack; a light lunch, a mid afternoon, then dinner. And when I say snack, I mean something healthy.

Eat slowly. It takes a while for your stomach to know its full. When you rush and eat, you end up over feeding yourself.

Have you noticed that sometimes when you eat and then its like you’re not full. So you go to the kitchen to make another meal but when the meal its ready, it seems like you lost your appetite. You might eat a little but you find out you’re not as hungry as you were when you decided to make the meal.

Eat slow and you will get filled up on time.

Avoid Street/junk/fast food: Of course you shouldn’t always deprive yourself when you’re on a weight loss journey. You can treat yourself once in a while. Opt for a healthier option. But don’t make eating Street/junk/fast food an habit because its calorie filled. Home cooked meal are the best. There’s nothing wrong with packing your lunch to work.


Staying Fit should be an every day thing.

Once upon a time, my mum sold gymning equipments and her main customers were older men and women who were over weight. It’s funny how some people eat anyhow just because they have this slimy perfect figure and if you ask them if they gym, they’ll tell you, “What for? Am I fat?” That’s a common misconception. Staying fit; exercising and eating right should be a part of everyday lifestyle not necessarily to lose weight but to keep healthy.

One easy way to exercise is by walking. Avoid the shortcuts. Don’t take a taxi everywhere.

I’ll leave you with this;
Love Yourself, Love your Body. No matter what size, shape, figure you are, you are wonderfully and beautifully made. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad or insecure about it. God loves you.

Losing Bellly Fat- 15 effective ways

Always found that belly fat a nuisance? Well, here are 15 tips to help you get rid of them.

Tip 1: First thing first, you need to be motivated. Losing weight takes a lot effort and time so you need to be properly motivated so you won’t give up easily.

Tip 2: Choose a fitness routine that’s just right for you. You can browse them out on goggle or youtube.

Tip 3: Rather than eating three large meals every day, switch to five smaller meals: a light breakfast, a mid-morning snack, a light lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, and a balanced dinner. Smaller portions more often will keep you from feeling hungry. And by the way, when I say “snack,” of course I mean something healthful, not a Twinkie! 

Tip 4: Doing your weight bearing exercises – one of the best way of losing belly fat. think you’ll need to spend the rest of your life doing sit-ups and crunches only, so you can burn belly fat and keep it off, that’s not quite true. You’ll need to do all sorts of exercises, in moderation, including weight bearing exercises, like brisk walking, jogging, and the like. Remember, overall fitness and nutrition is the key for losing stomach fat, and making sure it doesn’t come

Tip 5: Do your non-weight bearing exercises too. In addition to the weight bearing exercises to help you burn belly fat, you’ll also need to add non-weight bearing exercises, like biking and rowing. These two (weight bearing and non-weight bearing), combined with weight training and cardio, and some yoga thrown in for good measure, will give you a lifetime of fitness and good health — and of course will melt that belly fat away for good.

Tip 6: Never skip breakfast. It can actually be one of those things that cause stomach fat! If you don’t eat after many hours of sleeping your body goes into ‘starvation mode’. This is bad news for shedding belly fat as it slows your metabolism down in an effort to save energy and burn less calories. In fact a lot of dietitians advice that the best breakfast is a heavy one.

Tip 7: One of the best ways to lose stomach fat fast is to try and eat more fat burning foods such as brown rice, whole grains, vegetables, natural fruits, skimmed milk, lean poultry or meat, seafood and egg whites.

Tip 8: Cut down or eliminate the consumption of alcohol. Because of the effects alcohol has on the liver, drinking alcoholic drinks slows down the body’s natural fat burning proces.

Tip 9: I hate the scale. We all think of it as the end-all, be-all of weight loss measurement, but it’s not. First of all, as women, our weight is prone to fluctuate a little on its own with our own natural cycles. Also, as we build lean muscle and lose stomach fat, we’ll actually gain a little weight, though we’re losing inches. Ignore the scale. Or, if you just can’t help yourself, keep the weigh-ins to a minimum, maybe once a week or every two weeks.

Tip 10: Drink, drink and drink. While trying to lose belly fat, its important to stay hydrated. If you are dehydrated your liver won’t function, making the fat losing process ineffective.

Tip 11: Want a quick tip to make it look like you’ve lost inches, even when you haven’t (yet)? Suck your tummy in, put your shoulder back, keep your head up, and, with this good posture, you’ll look (and even FEEL) much fitter — it’s even easier to breathe this way! In a way you’ll be toning your abdominal muscles, and as you know – they are essential in losing stomach fat faster

Tip 12: Swim. I know I sound like a broken record, but if you don’t exercise regularly, you’ll never lose belly fat. One of the best ways to exercise, and the most fun this summer, is to swim!

Tip 13: Eat slowly – an effective way of losing stomach fat fast. Get into the habit of taking smaller bites and chewing them slowly because that will ensure that you consume fewer calories and do not over-eat. How? Well, it takes our brain about 20 minutes to register that we are full. So if you don’t take your time to eat, chances are you’re eating past the point where you’re full. Eating slowly gives you enough time to realize when you should stop.

Tip 14: A good night sleep. If you are not sleeping at least 7-8 hours per night you will find it difficult to find the energy to work out and eat well. Studies show people who are constantly tired have slower metabolisms.  So, make sure you get a good night sleep every night!

Tip 15: Skip the junk food. Skip the fast food. Why? It’s loaded with calories.

Once you’ve got the body you want (no belly fat in sight!), that doesn’t mean it’s time to rest on your laurels. Don’t stop exercising. Don’t stop eating right. Keep up with your plan, and you’ll keep your new hot body!

Whatsup babes and guys, am opening a new category called Style It Out. In this category I would be blogging about health, fitness, style and fashion. It’s something to look forward to. So this is the first official blog post of Style It Out.

Pointers On Reducing Belly Fat:

Statistics has shown that a lot of young adults are not happy with their abdominal muscle tone. They would prefer it to be lower or better more, lose the belly fat all together. Its really annoying when I wear a body fitting dress, and then my tummy bulges out. So my ultimate goal is to lose it all together. I admire young ladies who are really comfortable with their skin, no matter what size.

Tip 1: Before you start doing push up and sit up, decide how much fat you want to burn out. Make up your mind that this is what you really want to do. Losing weight and belly fat takes a lot of work, so you really need to set a goal to help you keep an eye on the progress.

Tip 2: Find an appropriate exercise routine that fits well for you. You can browse different moves out and try them at least thrice a week.

Tip 3: Water Therapy. Drinking a bottle of water or two first thing when you wake up in the morning has been proven to help flush away excess belly fat in the body. Did I say, it helps for a radiant skin.

Tip 4: Stay hydrated. Even with your exercises  and work out. You need to stay hydrated because it helps the metabolism in your body burn out fat faster. This might involved you taking a can of water everywhere.

Tip 5: Don’t over eat. Have you noticed that when you are thirsty you tend to eat more. So drink water first before eating. It takes your stomach a while before noticing its full. So don’t rush your food, take small bites.

Tip 6: After a couple of weeks, you see you are not losing weight anymore. Don’t give up. That’s just a plateau, your body is adjusting to all the positive things you are doing.

Tip 7: Even if you just want to lose belly fat, its important to do a general exercise of your body. To keep fit.

Tip 8: Do not exercise immediately after eating. It isn’t effective and it will get you feeling sluggish. I ll recommend in the morning before breakfast but not on an empty stomach. Drink water or eat a small snack first. You don’t want to end up fainting.

Tip 9: Join a group. If you are in college and stay in a hostel, you and your friends can set fitness go. It’s so much better when you do it together. You don’t get discouraged easily.

Tip 10: Never miss breakfast. Its the most important meal of the day.

Tip 11: Avoid junk food. It one of the highest constituting factor of fat. You want something sweet?, take an apple, any fruit instead. You cat eat it junk food once a while to take the edge off the cravings.

Tip 12: Of course you can visit the fast food on occasions but don’t make it an every thing. That’s because the food are loaded with calories. Home cooked meal are the best!!!

Tip 13: Avoid the shortcuts. You don’t always have to take a bus home or to school. Walk it instead. Not only does it saves money but it helps to get rid of excess body weight.

Tip 14: Don’t starve yourself just because you want to lose weight. Avoid calories but starving yourself is terribly unhealthy and it won’t work anyway.

Tip 15: Don’t take any sort of pills to lose weight. Its a scam and completely unhealthy.
